LOEWE began as a cooperative of leather artisans in the centre of Madrid in 1846. It is one of the world’s oldest major luxury houses. By 1910, Loewe had acquired a reputation as the most luxurious leather goods supplier in the city and began expansion over the Spanish territory. In 1934 Enrique Loewe Knappe took over the company and there followed a succession of store openings and expansions.

Olio is a super rare vintage sunglasses frame from ELK. The ELK branding can be seen to the front and temporal sides, but on very close inspection it is also present on the lenses. The lenses have 100% UV protection and are made of glass. A tiny blemish can be seen on the right temporal side signature detail, but only on very close inspection and does not detract from this new old stock, 1980's vintage frame.  

Enrique Loewe Knappe glasses and sunglasses we manufactured for a one-time only collection so each piece is extremely rare and has its own unique numerical identifier. The frames are 22kt gold plated and all new unused old stock.

These spectacles were created by Enrique Loewe Knappe to be an objet d’art. They have been manufactured using exquisite and refined materials fashioned by the best and most prestigious craftsmen in the industry. Being produced in a limited series the spectacles have been individually numbered as a guarantee of their exclusiveness.

The frames contain quality features which combine the leading edge of technology and craftsmanship. Automatic processes are only used where necessary in order to order precision measurement. A complex process using precious metal coatings, such palladium, platinum and 22kt gold plated in strategic coats of differing thicknesses achieve a high gold plate (HGP) Turing these frames into a jewel.

By the end of the 60’s Loewe was beginning to expand internationally. Fans of the brand included Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Sophia Loren and Ernest Hemingway.
